This happens way too often, leaving many projects unfinished and bugs unfixed.

FollowUpThen might help you crack this nut for good. In your next email, just add [interval]@followupthen.com as a recipient, and the tool will send you a reminder after the time interval you specify. You can put the address in the Cc field to send a follow-up email to both you and your colleague, or Bcc to remind only yourself.

You also get fine-grained control of the time interval: 3months@, 3hours@, 3days@, tomorrow@, nextweds@, etc. You probably wouldn’t want to send sensitive data to this third-party system, even although the website claims that all email content is deleted once the follow-up has been sent. The service is free, but you have to verify your email address the first time you use the service. Once you do that, you’ll receive all details, instructions and scheduling methods via email.
